Despite my positive thoughts and belief of a healthy, drama-free pregnancy, things haven’t gotten off to a good start.
I went in to the doctor on Wed for cramping, and was told by the doctor that he could detect a sac but no fetus or heartbeat. He said it was possibly a blighted ovum, meaning that the baby didn’t develop.
Yesterday I went for a 2nd opinion and the doctors said not to worry, it’s way too early to make conclusions.
Today I went for the first regular appointment that I’d prescheduled with my OB, who did a 3rd ultrasound and blood test. He still can’t find a heart beat.
Now I have to wait until Wednesday to go back and have another ultrasound and blood test. Between the results of the blood test and the results of the ultrasound, we should have more definitive information.
I am trying my hardest to stay positive but I have to admit, this just SUCKS. I had really hoped for an easy, uneventful pregnancy.
In the meantime, I have seen an entire season of Gray’s Anatomy, TrueBlood, and have House, Desperate Housewives, and Heroes waiting for me. Hopefully 30 hours of TV time will get me through to Wednesday. Plust I am exhausted and a mess with barely any energy for anything.
Prayers would be greatly appreciated just about now.
Prayers coming your way.
You know I am thinking of/praying for you always.
Being in the infertililty trenches for years, I “know” (through the internet) plenty of people who had very early ultrasounds that couldn’t detect heartbeat, but then go on to healthy pregnancies, so there is hope!

Congratulation on your pregnancy!
Do you by chance know what your HCG & progesterone levels are? When the Docs are giving you an ultrasound, are they doing it transvaginally? A bit past 4 weeks pregnant is a bit early to see much other than a sac in the uterus via ultrasound. Typically a heartbeat isn’t detected until 6-7 weeks gestation.
I’m sure you are wondering why I’m so certain about this info? I had a tubal ligation in March 1996 and a tubal reversal in Aug. 2002. When I get pregnant, until the pregnancy is confirmed to be in the uterus, I’m a high risk for an ectopic pregnancy. So my HCG levels have to be closely monitored and an unltrsounds preformed until a uterine pregnancy is confirmed.
So stop worrying! Worrying isn’t good for your health or that of your precious little one.
If you want you can email me with any questions or if you just need to talk.
You are in my thoughts and prayers!
