So I have a question for everyone. I usually try to reply to everyone’s comments via email. But then other people don’t see the responses. Do you guys ever go back to read comments on old posts? Or do you prefer when I email back?
I know I’ve been slacking on replying – I am so sorry about that! But I want to connect with everyone and thought I’d get feedback about the best method of replying to comments. How do you reply to your own comments? How do your favorite blogs do it? Thanks so much!
I go back and read comments in the posts I am interested in all the time.
I think it depends on what you have to say. If it’s just, “Yeah, thanks for commenting. I’m glad others agree with me.” then I would leave it in the comments. Same is true when what you have to say is an answer to a question that multiple people have asked or if the answer is potentially helpful to someone Googling in 2 years.
I think email replies should be saved for sharing more personal info than you (or the person you are responding to) might want to share in public. I know, email is like a postcard and not private, but still. There are just times when that seems deemed necessary.
I know when I get an email response after leaving a comment then I have an urge to reply and sometimes that’s not needed. I mean do you send a thank you note to someone for sending you a thank you note? I find myself in that confusing situation sometimes.
Anyway — my 2 cents — your mileage may vary! 🙂
I do both depending on circumstances like KYouell said. Do what you want. It’s your blog. People can choose to subscribe to comments also if they do not want to go back and look.
Hmmmm…..I don’t always respond. I guess some comments are just that – comments and not a call to action. Plus, I don’t have time to respond to them all without feeling like I’m overwhelmed 🙂
I say do whatever feels right. It will depend on the comment and the post and what you have to say and don’t sweat it too much.
