Magical

As I was trying to figure out what to call this post, many words came to mind…amazing…stupendous…incredible…fun…exhilarating…but what we experienced last weekend definitely had a dab of the otherwordly, of the truly magical.

Do you see us? Owen and I, skiing with Nathan?

Never in my wildest dreams had I ever imagined that I could go skiing with my quadriplegic son. Yet last weekend we did, all 4 of us, we skied together.

I don’t have words to describe how amazing it felt to race down the mountain at full speed following Nathan…knowing that he could experience the same things I did…the sensation of plummeting down the snow, flying flying flying…feeling the power of the mountain as it pulled you down with all its strength. And he glowed…my boy glowed to know that he was being chased by mommy and daddy down the mountain…and at one point even sister Belle chased him too. Nathan’s eyes glimmered and sparkled as he slid down the lift to begin the long journey down blue/black slopes…knowing he would beat mommy and daddy because he was fastest.

Magical. Truly and completely magical. I left Mammoth with a feeling of fulfillment, of deep joy, of having surpassed limitations and experienced the impossible.

  1. You are so good at sharing the ‘magic’! I had the greatest feeling viewing the photos with your words about Nathan’s responses.

  2. OMG I love the lip on Nathan, I take it that’s when you stopped. Ryland does that same thing if you stop something his loves. I take it Nathan is like Ryland, The Faster the Better.
We are hoping to get a jogging stoller so when it gets warmer out we can take him for runs, I was a runner at one time and want to get back to that, I use to run 3 miles almost everyday before I met Nick

I think the place Nathan and Mitchell go snowboarding at (Great Bear) is way smaller, not to many Big Hills in our area.

  4. Magical indeed. I have tears or happiness in my eyes! Nathan is really looking so grown up. What a beautiful experience! So happy for you all.

  5. Awesome Marcela…I have to try this with Cj, he loves to go fast! You talked me into it with the great photos, he had a blast!

  6. You guys are such an inspiration that there are no limitations when you have a special needs child only the ones we put on ourselves Bravo for doing that for Nathan and sharing with us. Love Sandi see you Saturday

  7. MARCELA, this just made my day—actually, my MONTH. I love that you were all able to do that together. It looks like Nathan LOVED it!

  9. Looks like so much fun. Actually, I might need some adaptive skiing. I’ve tried it a couple of times and hate it – I think I’m out of control and will break something. But, I could sit back and let a good skiier take me down the mountain. Now, that’s what I call living!!!!!

  10. I have a feeling Ms thrill seeker Emma would love this!  I am sure someone must do this in the East Coast?  And I’m pretty sure you wouldn’ t have to go with her..we didn’t have to go with Nathan if we didn’t want to, but of course we were dying to.

  11. Cybell, siiii, el viaje fue maravilloso, ambos ninos estaban felizes!!!  Los pucheros fueron porque se termino el paseo!  Hasta lloro!  Besos a todos, especialmente a la Cata!
