Of Life and Change

Life has been busy, and oh so good.

Let me start with the best of news. I mentioned in my previous post that about a month ago we decided to ignore the G-tube and feed Nathan by mouth. He started asking for food and eating like he used to! Ever since, he’s been eating like a champ! He gets all of his feeds by mouth during the day, and depending on how he ate, we will add another meal while he sleeps just to pack in more calories. If the pump only runs for an hour or two he’s okay, but more than that disturbs his sleep. He has more energy, and is SO MUCH HAPPIER.

We use the tube to give him water as that is more difficult for him to manage, so he is better hydrated than ever.

All in all I couldn’t be happier. Even though the decision to place a G-tube was tough and I honestly doubted myself a million times during the horrible month he had afterwards, now we are thrilled. The tube gives us a way to keep him hydrated, give him meds when he needs them, and add in extra calories. I do wish we’d made the move sooner, but am glad we made it and now he has it. Getting here was a tough road but I am grateful to be where we are!

As for the rest of the family, all is well! We are loving our new house, and the process of transformation. It is super time consuming but we can slowly see the evolution. The new windows and doors have been completed and now we are moving on to the kitchen. I’ll show pictures soon.

As for changes. I don’t really have time to blog any more, as you can see by my prolonged absence. This was a great site for me during the early stages of our journey but now we are in the midst of a different stage. I am going to be changing the blog so it’s mostly a feed from Facebook and Twitter. I do update those more frequently, especially with pictures and videos I take while we’re out and about.

Our life has settled into routine. I generally don’t have wild adventures or new journeys to share. Day to day, we just enjoy this life filled with 3 amazing souls. When I’m not working I’m playing with the kids, and when I’m not playing with the kids or working I’m spending quality time with Owen or meditating/exercising. And there goes my time.

So keep an eye out for the changes coming around here.

  1. Think about you guys often. Praying Nathan’s hips are healing nicely. I was wondering if it is just me or if Nathan is trying to use his voice more to communicate? Also noticed he was trying to turn pages of his book…?
