Nathan’s doctor came over a couple of hours ago and finally gave us some answers.

Nathan appears to have a bladder infection, combined with an upper respiratory virus. The combination of these two was causing him to throw up, which in turn caused dangerously low potassium.

This seems to be the reason for the constant sleeping and exhaustion. Nathan’s doctor was pissed that the residents here didn’t order an IV with potassium which they should’ve done as one of the first things to go when you vomit is potassium.

They have been giving him potassium since this morning and he has started to turn a corner. His color is starting to come back, he was awake for about an hour, and he seems better in general.

They are doing an EKG just to make sure nothing else is going on with his heart, as it’s still beating too slow, but the doctor is almost sure that’s related to the low potassium.

Also they started him on rocephin for the bladder infection.

His doctor is hopeful that betweeen the rocephin and the IV fuids, that Nathan will turn the corner by tomorrow.

As usual, prayers are working!!!!!! THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH!!!! Nathan is lucky to have so many wonderful people praying for and caring for him!

Sleeping

Nathan continues to sleep and sleep and sleep.

Today his potassium was very low, and his WBC count had more than doubled – indicating there is infection somewhere, but we just don’t know where.

The CT scan came back fine.

His doctor should be coming by shortly to discuss our next steps. There’s talk of starting an NG tube to get some nutrition into him.

They also drew blood to check for sepsis.

In the meantime, still no smiles, still no brown-eyed sparkle, just peaceful sleep sleep sleep.
