Suit Therapy

This morning I got in my car at 9:55 and at 10 am on the dot I arrived at the new suit therapy center that Nathan will be attending. I am still pinching myself. I cannot believe it is this close..worse yet, that it’s always been there and I hadn’t found it! I guess the timing wasn’t right before.

Nathan worked for 2 hours with the therapist. She is AMAZING. She spent some time putting kinesiotape on him – on his neck and stomack – to help with his flexion, as the side of his necks and lower abs are very very weak.

Then she had him roll down a large foam. And guess what .. he was able to do it!! For the first time ever! She was impressed as she noticed that he knew exactly what to do when gravity doesn’t block him completely. He had SO MUCH FUN rolling himself down that wedge and we did it several times.

Then she put the suit on him and worked on sitting and standing on the suit. He was a bit whiney but he worked really hard.

Unfortunately for now she doesn’t have time to see as much as I want. Hopefully soon more time will open up and we’ll be able to see her at least 3 times / week! As of now we don’t have any more appointments as she is fully booked. So please pray that her schedule magically opens up!

I wouldn’t have picked suit therapy as my ideal therapy to have next door, but I am grateful that it is there and SUSTAINABLE.

She was also impressed at the work we’ve done with ABR. She noticed how good his chest and neck look, which is what we’ve focused on with ABR. Also, I noticed that Feldenkrais is also helping him as he was able to utilize what he’s worked on with feldenkrais in the rolling, movement of the hips and pelvis, and when she put him on the floor on his belly, he was trying to army crawl (which he’s been working on in Feldenkrais).

Now I have some big decisions to make about how we will have time to continue everything but I have some ideas that I will share when I am ready.

Rolfing

Several months ago we started taking Nathan to weekly Rolfing sessions. Not only does Nathan love these sessions, but they have also been fundamental in keeping his body in good shape. Rolfing, along with ABR, both manipulate the connective tissue and myofascia. While ABR strengthens the myofascia, Rolfing elongates and stretches, which has keep Nathan with full range of motion and without contractures.

Without further ado, here is Tom, Nathan’s rolfing therapist:

Let me know if you have any questions, Tom said he’d be happy to answer any questions so we can turn this post into a Q&A.

A vision in glass and blue

What an amazing start to 2011.

This morning a friend asked me to go to a church with her. The morning I set foot on the grounds something within me stirred and I knew deep in my heart that I’d found the place where I would get married.

I immediately saw myself in this church, on a cliff overlooking the ocean, walking down the aisle with the love of my life. It is not just beautiful but perfect, everything I always dreamed of.

I can’t believe that just 2 days ago we were talking about finally making our wedding a reality, now I found the church and it’s only a matter of figuring out the dates.

Last night I wrote about INTENTION, and the fact that if we hold on to an intention we will manifest our intentions into reality. Well one of the reasons Owen and I hadn’t gotten married is because I simply hadn’t found the right place. I knew exactly what I wanted in my mind but I had never seen a place like it. To have walked today on those grounds and see with my external eyes what my internal eyes had already created was breathtaking.

My plan is to have 1 wedding and 2 baptisms, all at once.

And talking about 2011’s great start, last night Belle spent the first full night in her crib. She woke up and cried a few times, but we didn’t get up with her so she was able to get herself back to sleep. Tonight I put her down at 8:30pm and she cried for about 15 minutes and then fell asleep.

Also on Tuesday Nathan will go to a suit therapy appointment so we can have an actual trial to see how things go. Then Thursday we are off to Mammoth Lakes, CA to go skiing!

Oh what a glorious couple of days, what a great start to the year!
