I just got the call, Nathan’s scheduled for his hip surgery this Friday. We’ve had to postpone it several times because he always gets sick. This time seems like it might actually happen. I’ll keep everyone posted, but if you can, think of Mr. Smiles this Friday morning.
Back!
It’s been months since I’ve been here. I even thought about shutting down the site and tried replacing it with my Facebook/Instagram stream, but it didn’t feel right. PrayForNathan has been a great aspect of our lives and it just doesn’t feel right!
It’s been crazy busy around here. 3 kids, the new house, the business…trying to keep everything afloat has kept Owen and I busy as can be!
Plus things have been so stable. In the past I had so much to say as we tried out new therapies, healing methods, etc. Now things are pretty much status quo. Nathan is doing great. He is happy. He LOVES his brother and sister and they LOVE him so much. We enjoy being together. Life is very good.
Today as we drove to Dog Beach with the 3 kids and 2 dogs Owen and I talked about how “normal” our life is these days. Nathan is just one of the gang. We both feel so grateful to have him. As hard as some aspects of his care are, we get so much out of his presence in our lives. Just like we do the other 2. It takes a bit more creativity to have him “access” fun but we always find a way!
We are getting ready for the 4th attempt at hip surgery, which should be coming up in the next week or two.
We had a GI check up and she was super impressed, he’s gained 4 pounds!
I’ll do my best to keep updating, it may be once a month but I’ll write when I can.
Of Life and Change
Life has been busy, and oh so good.
Let me start with the best of news. I mentioned in my previous post that about a month ago we decided to ignore the G-tube and feed Nathan by mouth. He started asking for food and eating like he used to! Ever since, he’s been eating like a champ! He gets all of his feeds by mouth during the day, and depending on how he ate, we will add another meal while he sleeps just to pack in more calories. If the pump only runs for an hour or two he’s okay, but more than that disturbs his sleep. He has more energy, and is SO MUCH HAPPIER.
We use the tube to give him water as that is more difficult for him to manage, so he is better hydrated than ever.
All in all I couldn’t be happier. Even though the decision to place a G-tube was tough and I honestly doubted myself a million times during the horrible month he had afterwards, now we are thrilled. The tube gives us a way to keep him hydrated, give him meds when he needs them, and add in extra calories. I do wish we’d made the move sooner, but am glad we made it and now he has it. Getting here was a tough road but I am grateful to be where we are!
As for the rest of the family, all is well! We are loving our new house, and the process of transformation. It is super time consuming but we can slowly see the evolution. The new windows and doors have been completed and now we are moving on to the kitchen. I’ll show pictures soon.
As for changes. I don’t really have time to blog any more, as you can see by my prolonged absence. This was a great site for me during the early stages of our journey but now we are in the midst of a different stage. I am going to be changing the blog so it’s mostly a feed from Facebook and Twitter. I do update those more frequently, especially with pictures and videos I take while we’re out and about.
Our life has settled into routine. I generally don’t have wild adventures or new journeys to share. Day to day, we just enjoy this life filled with 3 amazing souls. When I’m not working I’m playing with the kids, and when I’m not playing with the kids or working I’m spending quality time with Owen or meditating/exercising. And there goes my time.
So keep an eye out for the changes coming around here.
