A Lovely Day

Today was another lovely day for us here in Santiago. Enjoy a couple of cute pictures courtesy of MamaTerapeuta:

Here they were in a game where we could sit them in their wheelchairs and the kids ran around in circles, like the teacups at Disney. Nathan loved it! (but Rocio wasn’t quite sure). They played at a big seesaw too and both of them LOVED it.

Today was an off day for Nathan – no Medek. I’m glad he had a day off.

Now just in keeping with the usual style of the blog, I wanted to talk a little bit about BodyTalk. The day before we left for Chile Nathan had a treatment by a BodyTalk specialist called Dr. Pilipovich and, well, it rocked my world. The guy is AMAZING. This man knew nothing about Nathan – he’s never seen his website, doesn’t know anything about his diagnosis, etc. But using Bodytalk, he was able to diagnose things about Nathan that even neurologists and neurosurgeons didn’t know. He diagnosed the lack of separation between the hemispheres, as well as further details such as problems with the Falx Cerebri, problems in his craniosacral system, problems reabsorbing CSF fluids back into his brain, and more. How, you might wonder? BodyTalk! Bodytalk has the tools to give people the chance to diagnose all kinds of things.

He also told me something incredible that he discovered through BodyTalk. Nathan had been very resistant to change and improvement in his physical condition for fear of changing. Nathan is a very spiritual being and identifies himself heavily as a spiritual person. In his subconscious, he is afraid to develop physicall for fear of losing his connection with spirit. As part of the treatment, he told him it was okay to improve physically as he wouldn’t lose his connection to spirit. I sincerely believe this is the reason why Nathan has been so good in Medek. It’s the first time in 3 years where Nathan is making a strong effort in his therapy without resisting. It’s almost as if he’s giving himself permission to change. I know this sounds “out there” (as usual), but hey, when out there works, you go with it! And I’m going!

I’ve been toying a little bit with BodyTalk every day, doing mini sessions on myself and Nathan, and every day I am building more confidence and belief in this amazing healthcare modality. The more I learn about it the more I am CONVINCED that I have found GOLD.

I’ll share more about BodyTalk as I learn more. In the meantime, we’ll continue to enjoy our time here in Santiago!

Our day today

I am so bummed that I can’t post pictures of Nathan in his Medek sessions. Hopefully my camera will be here soon! Nathan is doing incredible in his sessions! Every single session he gets stronger and stronger. Ramon keeps increasing the difficulty of the exercises and he keeps doing them! He is standing better, balancing better, and holding up his trunk much better. Ramon has been working a LOT on his trunk as it’s his biggest deficit. Once he has trunk control we’re in business!

At first I was worried about all these Medek sessions, but I’ve been BLOWN AWAY by Nathan’s disposition! He is working hard, NOT CRYING, and really doing his best in all of the exercises. This is a MAJOR shift for Nathan. In the past he did the exercises but he cried and cried and resisted them. Now, without TV or ANY distractions, he works hard! I will write another post about why I think this is happening (hint hint – Bodytalk).

Today was a lovely, but sad, day. Nathan had 2 sessions in the morning, which was hard on him as he didn’t have much time to rest. But even with that, he did very well. In the afternoon we napped and then we went out with PapaTerapeuta. We drove around downtown Santaigo and went to Cerro San Sebastian. It is so beautiful here! We really enjoyed seeing everything. Nathan was happy to ride around in Rocio’s car seat. Unfortunately Rocio is a little bit under the weather so she wasn’t able to come out with us.

Then in the early evening Mary went back home. We miss her already! Afterwards Nathan and I cuddled up in bed and watched a little bit of TV. We’ve mostly taken TV away from him so he was really happy to have a chance to cuddle with mommy AND watch TV.

And now, we’re off to bed! Have a great weekend everyone!

We’ve got internet!

Now we can properly chronicle our Chilean adventures. Yesterday we moved to a new apartment! The one we were originally in was too far from Ramon’s office, too noisy, and too small. We chose it because it was supposed to have a heated pool..well, guess what? It was FREEZING! So we complained to the agency and we found a new apartment. WE LOVE IT! The new apartment is much bigger and much more homey. It’s closer to Ramon and there is a mall, a supermarket, and a few more stores right across the street from us. There’s also a preschool that Nathan will be going to in the afternoons just across the street! And most importantly, we are much closer to MamaTerapeuta and Rocio 🙂

Now for the most important topic – How is Nathan? Mr. Nathan is blowing me away with how well he is doing. He is doing the Medek sessions without crying! He is working hard and doing exercises that there was just no way he could do the last time we saw Ramon. Today he did his first aerial standing where he stayed up by the ankles and a little support to the head for quite a few seconds! Ramon has been VERY pleased with his progress. I must say that I have been moved to tears watching Ramon work with Nathan. He is just INCREDIBLE. He is able to get more out of Nathan than even I thought possible. But where sometimes I am cloudy, Ramon sees potential, and when you can see potential, you can elicit that response, which Ramon is doing for Nathan.

Other than Medek, Nathan’s been HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY! He LOVES adventures and is loving being in a new country. He is playing more with his toys, eating well, sleeping well (mostly), and in general is at his best.

My camera should be arriving soon and I’ll do my best to get pictures up as quickly as possible!
